Read the 'Transcity Information Notice' received today HERE:
In coming months, Transcity will need to undertake works to relocate the trunk water main which runs under the Western Freeway.
Currently, the water main is located 1-2 metres beneath the Western Freeway, approximately 350 metres west of the Mt Coot-tha Roundabout. To enable construction of the entry and exit into the tunnel, the service needs to be lowered to approximately nine metres below the road surface.
Survey work
To inform the design process for these works, Transcity needs to undertake survey work near Crossway College and the Toowong dog off-leash area between Wednesday 20 July and Friday 22 July.
This work will be undertaken during normal day hours, 6.30am-6.30pm.
Working with you
Following survey activities and detailed design, further detail regarding the water main works will be available. As this information becomes available, Transcity will work with local residents and businesses to minimise impacts to the community.
Our project
Legacy Way is a road tunnel that will connect the Western Freeway at Toowong with the Inner City Bypass (ICB) at Kelvin Grove. It will provide an alternative route to local roads for traffic leaving the Western Freeway and travelling to and from the ICB. When it opens, Legacy Way will reduce, by up to 44%, the peak hour travel time of journeys from the Centenary Bridge to the ICB.
Water main relocation work
From mid-August 2011, Transcity will begin works to relocate the western water main. The works involve sending a 2.4m diameter tunnel bore from a launch pit in the western worksite under the Western Freeway through to a retrieval pit between the dog off-leash area and the freeway where it will be retrieved. All spoil from the tunnel will be removed at the western worksite.
Transcity will install a new pipe from the western worksite which will be connected to the water main on the southern side of the freeway.
To facilitate this work, Transcity will build temporary road access from Wool Street to the retrieval pit area. This work will require clearing activities and the installation of an access ramp at the end of Wool Street.
Workers will be bused in each day, to avoid parking on local streets. The delivery of oversized equipment and machinery will be required at certain stages throughout the works.
All areas will be rehabilitated following the completion of this activity and Transcity will work to improve road conditions at the corner of Wool Street and Broseley Road.
The Toowong dog off-leash area will not be impacted by these works.
